BIOPAQ® CBD (Clean Bottom Digester) is purpose-built for industries where high COD and high solids go hand in hand.
While most anaerobic systems require pre-treatment or clean influent, CBD efficiently treats wastewater with up to 150 g/L COD and 100 g/L TSS. It continuously removes heavy solids like sand, grit, and struvite to prevent accumulation and downtime.

Working principle of BIOPAQ® CBD
Influent and recirculation water are evenly distributed across the top of the reactor through nozzles that also break up any floating scum.
Biomass moves downflow, creating a stable plug flow regime for optimal COD conversion.
Heavy solids are collected by a bottom scraper and extracted from the reactor. Optionally, sand and grid are separated from the organic material using a special designed cyclone.
Biogas produced from the degraded organics exits the top of the reactor and is sent to downstream energy recovery.
Treated effluent is discharged for further treatment or reuse.
BIOPAQ® CBD offers a robust solution for high-COD, high-solids effluents, using plug-flow anaerobic digestion and a closed lamella separator to avoid mechanical mixing and sludge build-up. Unlike aerobic systems with high energy demand and frequent diffuser maintenance, CBD reduces OPEX by minimizing power use and maintenance interventions. With proven installations worldwide, it delivers reliable biogas production and operational efficiency even in the most challenging industrial applications.
